Instead of building a custom shed, we bought this one on Costco.com for $1500 and painted it. It makes me happy every time I walk into the garden.

We Bought A...Custom Pirate Ship
I had known what I wanted to do with this space since putting the sidewalk in, but I needed to decide if it would be a basic play set (like the ones you buy at Costco or Lifetime), or a custom one. It took 3 years for us to decide!
I strategically showed my husband different photos of playsets and pirate ships I'd found on Pinterest each night before bed. When he finally said, "I know what we need to do with that space, build an american-ninja-warrior-pirate-playset!", I let him think it was his idea.
The next day I called our favorite contractor, who has a great imagination and never says no to whatever project we think up. Between him and my husband, the plans were soon in place and construction began!
Someday I'll get the details put on here of measurements, materials, costs, etc.. For now, I just have the photos. I think it's amazing and the kids LOVE it!!

We Bought a Lot - Planning
September 2011 - January 2012
Before we could landscape we needed a demolition plan. We knew the house had to go, but were hoping to keep as many of the mature trees as possible.
I made a diagram (or multiple diagrams) of how I'd want to landscape the land and it meant a lot of the trees would have to be removed.
You can't tell with all of the leaves, but these trees and bushes had been neglected for about 20 years. They were pretty disfigured with loads of dead branches. One of my favorite trees was split right down the middle and was a huge hazard.
Johnny got to be a manly man and chop everything down. On top of that, he also went through the house and salvaged all of the old doors and windows.
It may seem gloomy, but was on it's way to being cared for and beautiful!
At this stage we were waiting for all of the utilities to be capped off so we could start the process to get a demolition permit.
